Cookie Policy
Last updated: 19 October 2026. This policy explains the single browser preference used by The Sweet Atelier and the technologies the website does not use.
Introduction
The Sweet Atelier uses a small script to run the mobile menu, the FAQ accordion, the inquiry forms, and a notice about browser storage. This Cookie Policy describes that notice in more detail than the banner can. It should be read with the Privacy Policy, which covers the same preference and the forms.
The word “cookie” is used here in the broad sense of a small item of data a website asks the browser to remember. The implementation on this site is local storage, not an HTTP cookie set by a server. The practical effect is similar: one value stays on your device until you remove it.
What Cookies Are
A cookie is a short text record that a website can store in a browser and read back on a later visit. Local storage is a related browser feature that lets a page save a named value on the device. Both can be useful for a preference, and both can be misused for tracking if a site loads extra tools. This website uses the second feature for one preference only.
The value is stored under the key tsa_cookie_choice. It is either “accepted” or “rejected.” It does not contain your name, your email, or the text of a pastry inquiry.
How Cookies Are Used
When you first open a page, the notice is visible unless a choice is already stored. Accept, Reject, and Save preferences each write the choice and hide the notice. On a later visit, the script reads the stored value. If it is one of those two words, the notice stays hidden. The pastry pages, photographs, and forms work whether or not you have answered the notice.
The choice does not unlock a second set of scripts. The same JavaScript file loads with the page either way. That file does not wait for consent before running the menu or the FAQ, because those features do not track you. It also does not start analytics after you press Accept, because analytics code is not present.
Essential Cookies
The notice preference is the only stored item, and it is essential to the notice itself: without it, the banner would return on every page. It is not essential to viewing croissants, cakes, or the other catalog pages. You can ignore the banner and keep reading. If you want the banner to stay dismissed, one of the buttons has to write the preference.
There is no login cookie, no shopping-cart cookie, and no cookie that remembers a selected pastry between visits. The inquiry form does not write your message into local storage. If you reload the page, the fields are empty again unless your browser restores them on its own.
Functional Cookies
Aside from the notice preference, the site does not store functional preferences such as a chosen language, a region, or a saved inquiry list. The mobile menu state exists only while the page is open. FAQ answers open and close without being saved for the next visit.
Analytics Cookies
The Sweet Atelier does not use analytics cookies. The pages do not include Google Analytics or another measurement tag. Accepting the notice does not start a visit counter. The site therefore cannot show you a report of how many people opened a pastry page, and it does not claim such a number anywhere else.
Advertising Cookies
The website does not use advertising cookies and does not load an advertising network. There is no retargeting pixel and no personalization of ads based on the pastries you view. Rejecting the notice is not required in order to avoid ads, because those tags are not installed. Accepting it does not opt you into ads.
Third-Party Technologies
A review of the current pages shows styles, fonts, images, and one script stored with the site. Fonts are not requested from a third-party font host when the page loads. There is no embedded map, video, or social plugin that would set its own cookies. If a future edit adds a third-party tool, this policy and the banner have to be updated first, and any non-essential tool should wait for the choice the applicable law requires.
Hosting a static site can still involve the host’s own network logs. Those logs are described in the Privacy Policy as a hosting function, not as a cookie set by The Sweet Atelier script. This policy does not name a host, because that contract has not been published.
Cookie Preferences
The banner offers three controls, and each one does what its label says.
- Accept stores “accepted” and hides the notice. No analytics or advertising cookie is added.
- Reject stores “rejected” and hides the notice. The meaning of rejection on this site is that you do not want optional storage. The notice preference is still kept so the banner can stay closed. No analytics or advertising cookie is added.
- Preferences opens a short panel with the same two outcomes. Save preferences writes the selected radio button. If you open the panel again later in the same page view, the radios reflect the stored choice when one exists.
The Cookie Policy page can also show a line that repeats the current preference when one is already stored. That line is written by the same script into an element marked for status, when the page includes it. It is a reminder, not a separate store of personal data.
Browser Controls
You can remove tsa_cookie_choice from local storage for this site in your browser’s site settings. After it is removed, the notice appears again. You can also block local storage or cookies entirely. The catalog will still be readable. The notice may remain visible because the script cannot remember a dismissal.
Browser vendors describe these controls in their own help pages. This policy does not link to a particular browser’s instructions, because those addresses change and are not part of The Sweet Atelier. Look for site data, cookies, or local storage in the settings of the browser you use.
Managing Consent
The buttons are the consent controls for the notice preference. They are not a manager for a list of advertising partners, because there are no advertising partners on the site. You do not need an account to change your choice. Clear the stored value and answer the notice again.
Clipboard access for the inquiry form is a separate browser permission. It is requested only when you press Copy notes. Denying it does not change the cookie preference, and accepting the cookie notice does not grant clipboard access.
Policy Updates
This policy will be updated if the website begins to use any cookie or similar technology beyond the notice preference. The date at the top of the page will change with the text. A new analytics or advertising tool should not run before the policy describes it and, where the law requires a choice, before that choice is recorded. The current build does not include such a tool.
Further Information
Questions about this policy can be sent from the contact page, which opens a draft to [email protected], or by calling +64 9 843 1291. The shop address is 2 New Bond Street, Kingsland, Auckland 1021, New Zealand. The accurate summary of cookies is unchanged: The Sweet Atelier remembers your notice choice on your device, and it does not use that choice to measure or advertise.
